Trout Eyes: True Tales of Adventure, Travel, and Fly-Fishing
Trout Eyes: True Tales of Adventure, Travel, and Fly-Fishing
Fly fishermen everywhere will enjoy these varied, witty, and engaging adventures by one of America’s finest outdoor writers. There is a long section on trout fishing called “Brookies, Browns, and Bows,” and another on the challenges and excitement of saltwater fly fishing, and an exciting group of memoirs about fishing near home and in far-flung and often exotic places—like the Minipi, Bighorn, and Norfolk rivers, where the trout can beggar the imagination, and where frustration can be

Comfortable As An Old Shoe,
Tapply’s stories are outdoor experiences that could happen to any sportsman, not just those who can afford exotic trips and high-end lodges. He brings a warmth and genuine love of the sport to his writing. Not all the memories are of big fish; some are of the ones that got away, broken rods, horrendous weather, and everyday mishaps all fly fishers encounter, as well as rememberances of great guides and beautiful locations. My only criticism of this book is these stories are mostly repints from magazine articles, therefore they are fairly short. Tapply is such a delightful storyteller I wish his tales were a bit longer.

|Great Reading for Fly Fishermen,
Bill Tapply is the rare combination of writer and angler that makes reading about fly fishing almost as much fun as being on the water. It’s great to have a new book from him. This is as good a fishing book as I’ve read in a long time.

|Eric Leiser A National Treasure,
Having the opportunity to have corresponded with Eric Leiser via email, I found him to be very encouraging to my son who was just starting out and we both found this book to be a delight for us and to those I was teaching fly tying to. It is packed with endless tips, step by step instruction and great visual aids for one just starting out in the craft to a fly tier with experience , proving the adage that there is something to learn from everyone. He is truly a historian for the world of fly tying as well as one of the pioneers of the craft, I strongly recommend this book along with the other books he has written, even if you are experienced your section on fly tying will not be complete without Eric Leiser’s titles. His books deserve top shelf in your fly tying library.

|This is a must read.,
I’ve read some negative reviews of this book which mostly center around the antiquated format. I agree that the photographs are, by today’s standards, of poor quality. The drawings are very good quality though. This is the ONLY bad thing I can say about this book. Its CONTENT is, simply put, enlightening. I’ve been tying casually for a few years, and I’ve recently committed to stepping up my game. This book has really helped me toward that goal.
The author really opened my eyes to the techniques that some of the great fly tiers use to produce first rate flies. For example, he goes into a lot of detail about choosing the best feathers for a given tie. This is something I hadn’t thought much about before. It has really changed how I view my purchase of materials. Mr. Leiser also gives many many tips on how to simplify the construction of common patterns that are still used today. It really is full of good information.
Thank you, Mr. Leiser, for sharing you knowledge in these pages. This is a book that I will refer to again and again.
