Fly Fishing Lessons – How To Fly Fish
Beginner fly fishing can be very frustrating especially if you’ve never had any fly fishing lessons. It’s not an easy sport to learn. If you’re lucky your local Fish and Game may have some fly fishing lessons you can take but for the most part it’s something you kind of have to learn on your own.
When I first started fly fishing I read some fly fishing books and some fly fishing guides. They were helpful to get started but I always felt like something was left out. Like the guy writing it assumed I knew some things I didn’t know especially when it came to fly casting or what type of fly rod to use.. I think fly fishing lessons need to be more than just a collection of fly fishing tips or an instructor telling how to tie flies to get trout.
Fly fishing is a sport that is easily learned, but difficult to master. It’s more art than sport, more science than skill. Heck, in some towns there’s even a fly fishing school!
Fly Fishing Lessons
If you really want to learn how to fly fish, taking some fly fishing lessons here and there might be helpful but I think you’re kind of grasping at bits and pieces of something that you really need the whole picture to see. Some friendly advice from the guy behind the counter at the local fly shop isn’t going to cut it.
Learning how to fly fish is more than just learning how to cast and tying a few flies. It’s actually more of a science than a sport. Knowing what flies work in what conditions, how to properly cast in different waters, or what flies to choose depending on the season or even time of day is not learned overnight.
How To Fly Fish
The only real way to learn how to fly fish is by getting advice from real experts, guys who can actually do what they teach. A few years ago, I came across this website called “Better Fly Fishing” and I think it might change the way you fish forever. Unlike a lot of fishing guides that are either too technical to understand or too general to fill in all the little details this guide will give you everything you need in one place.

Most guys fail at fly fishing because they don’t understand a few key elements: how to fish in different water conditions, the right way to cast, which equipment to buy, or even which knots to use.
Imagine getting all this information right the first time. I can’t tell you how many mistakes I’ve made fishing over the years.
